CalfAIDTM Requirements:

1. Producer must fill out Registration Form and submit to CalfAIDTM Office for approval.

2. Submit Calving Record Keeping Book or be a current CHAPSTM member.

3. Individual animal birthdates must be recorded.

4. Visual Identification Tags are required.

5. CHAPSTM participation.

6. Report any culls to CalfAIDTM office.

*Note:  Calves with EID's will be entered into the CHAPSTM Program.
A CHAPSTM generated report will be the Document of Record, and will provide the producer with source and age verification data.

Producer is required to purchase Electronic Identification tags from supplier of his choice.

Additional Information:

1. EID tags are non-transferable.

2. Purchased cattle must be source and age verified through the original producer.

3. Extra tags may be kept for future use.

4. Nonconforming reports, generated by the CalfAIDTM Office, will identify animals that cannot be marketed as Source & Age Verified cattle.

5. Removal or loss of EID tag.  The EID animal numbering system can only be effective if the eartag device bearing the animals's electronic identification number remains affixed to the animal through the animal's lifetime, from source to slaughter.  If an animal's tag is lost or if it is necessary to replace the EID with a new number, it is important to correlate the new official number with the previous number of the  animal and report any changes to the CalfAIDTM office.

  • Producers must purchase their own tags and tagging tool along with the required documents to record data and submit to the CalfAIDTM office.
  • EID cattle will be traced to the fullest extent possible.
  • Other info:  When source and age verification is requested throughout the marketing chain the CalfAIDTM office will generate a report and respond to the request.
  • CHAPSTM generated reports are provided to the Producer along with a List of Non-conformance animals (if any).
  • At this time our website does not provide a Listing Service of Producers who participate in the CalfAIDTM program.

The North Dakota Beef Cattle Improvement Association has developed the CalfAIDTM Process Verified Program according to the USDA Agricultural Marketing Services Grading and Verification Division guidelines

CalfAIDTM developed and implemented a Quality Management System (QMS) to demonstrate its ability to provide cow/calf producers meeting specific requirements the means to trace their animals from conception to wholesale harvest. Our objective is to supply the producer with electronic identification for individual animals; CHAPSTM reports that allow the producer to age and source verify their cattle, and traceback of animals to the fullest extent possible.

The purpose of this information is to describe requirements and illustrate the CalfAIDTM process, producer responsibilities, document control, and procedures involved in the process.

The North Dakota Beef Cattle Improvement Association's CalfAIDTM program has been approved as a USDA Process Verified Program and is in conformance with the requirements of the USDA Process Verified Program of the Livestock and Seed Program and the criteria of the approved quality management systems.
