NDBCIA performance backed heifer calves will be offered to 4-H, FFA and and college age students at a special "Best In The West Heifer Sale" November 6 as part of the 44th Annual Dickinson Research Extension Center's Range Roundup. Nearly 30 high quality heifer calves from NDBCIA herds will be sold at auction at the DREC Ranch.
The heifers sell with performance records and the young purchasers will become members of the NDBCIA. The DREC will care for the heifers, breed them and guarantee buyers a live, bred heifer one year from the date of purchase. Buyers can select their breed of choice to which their heifer(s) will be bred and are required to consign their heifer purchase to the heifer development project. The costs of the heifer development project will not exceed $250.
Roundup participants will also have the opportunity to hear educational presentations on research being conducted at the DREC. Presentations will deal with many aspects of livestock production.
"Today's market presents opportunities for youth to get into the cattle business," DREC Director Kris Ringwall said. "All buyers are guaranteed a live, bred heifer one year from now."
