1997 National BIF meeting to be held inNorth Dakota.

DICKINSON, ND -- Southwest North Dakota will be the site of the 1997 Beef Improvement Federation Annual Meeting, according to Dr. Kris Ringwall, executive vice president of the North Dakota Beef Cattle Improvement Association. The meeting will be held May 14-17, 1997.

"This is a very prestigious event to bring to the region," Ringwall said. "We expect the top beef producers and research scientists across the western hemisphere to be in attendance at the annual meeting." A total of 450-600 people are expected to participate in the meetings.

Ringwall said, "This event will give us an opportunity to showcase our livestock and the quality of beef we produce. It will also give area producers a chance to meet and hear presentations on the latest research being conducted in the beef industry."

The North Dakota Beef Cattle Improvement Association is hosting the event. The NDBCIA has established a five-member committee which has already met to do preliminary planning and establish the schedule of events. The event will be headquartered at the Dickinson Hospitality Inn.

In addition to routine business, the Beef Improvement Federation convention attendees will participate in events at the Dickinson Research and Extension Center Ranch southwest of Manning, the Medora Ampitheatre, Assumption Abbey and Dickinson State University.

Dr. Gary White, chair person of the DSU Department of Agriculture and Technical Studies, announced the 1997 Blue Hawk Stampede Rodeo will coincide with the BIF Convention.

North Dakota State University, Dickinson State University and the North Dakota Stockmen's Association are assisting with the sponsorship of the event.

Local promotional arrangements are being coordinated through the Dickinson Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Odermann Communications Company of Belfield is assisting.
