STEPS ON GETTING STARTED

STEP 2

Enter your sire inventory.

Select File> Open> Sires

Select Add in the Sire dialog box.

-Enter your sire inventory. List all that have progeny on your operation.

-Also, enter Unknown for one sire as you will need to have a Sire ID recorded on all records.

 

REQUIRED DATA

SIRE ID: (8 characters max.) - May be any combination of letters and/or numbers. All sire ID’s must be unique. 

NOTE: The use of blanks will be counted as a character. Do not use dashes as they may cause sorting difficulties.

SIRE BREED: (8 characters max.) - Breed abbreviation for the sire. Do not make up your own breed codes. Refer to the CHAPS 2000 Cattle Breeds in this document for more abbreviations.

OPTIONAL DATA

SIRE OF SIRE: (8 characters max.) - The ID for the sire of this sire. May be any combination of letters and/or numbers. All sire ID’s must be unique.

BIRTH DATE: (8 characters max.) - Birth date of the sire in the form of Month/Day/Year (00/00/year, substituting the four digit year for "YEAR"). If the birth date is unknown, give your best estimate.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES: (10 characters max.) - May be any combination of letters and/or numbers and may include notes about the sire.

CALF ID AT BIRTH: (8 characters max.) - The ID the sire was given at birth.

DATE ENTERED HERD: (8 characters max.) - The date the sire entered the herd. The birth date can be used if the sire was raised on site or use the date that the sire was purchased.

SOURCE: (1 character max.) - The source of the sire. "R" is for raised; "P" is for purchased, or "A.I." if semen was purchased from this sire.

DAM OF SIRE: (8 characters max.) - The dam of the sire. May be any combination of letters and/or numbers. All cow ID’s must be unique.

REGISTRATION NUMBER: (18 characters max.) - The registration number of the sire

PREMISE ID: (18 characters max.) - The premise identification number for the sire.

ELECTRONIC ID: (18 characters max.) - The electronic ID of the sire.

ACTIVE, CULLED, PEDIGREE: Use "A" for an active sire, "C" for a culled sire, or "P" when it is part of the pedigree. These selections are important when referring to a list of all active sires, culled sires, or those included in the pedigree.

CULLING DATE: (8 characters max.) - Cull date of the sire in the form of Month/Day/Year (00/00/YEAR, substituting the four digit year for "YEAR").

CULLING CODE: (1 character max.) - Refer to the CHAPS 2000 Guidelines under the Culling Codes for a list of the codes.
